There are many options for staying in Sri Lanka long-term. One of them is to start your own business on the island. Since it's a tourist destination with many Russian and Ukrainian visitors each season, opening a hotel is a viable and clear option.

Generally, I advise treading carefully on this island and thoroughly testing the waters before every step. I'm often approached with questions about relocating and starting a business in Sri Lanka. I usually ask how long the person has actually lived in Sri Lanka. Upon finding out they haven't lived here at all, I first recommend they come and live on the island. After that, they can weigh everything again and then come back to me.

However, most people want to take the easy, fast, and short path to their goal. So, they simply go from me to those who promise that "everything will be" quick, easy, and perfect—you just have to pay. I then watch as these people get into trouble. I observe every year how such enthusiasts open and then close their businesses. They leave the island disappointed and drained.

After some reflection... I see that there are requests for setting up businesses in Sri Lanka, but there are practically no offers, or the existing ones are very dubious.
